Gareth Evans has completed the World Marathon Challenge!

Gareth Evans (TR 1983-1988) has successfully completed 7 marathons, in 7 continents in 7 days!

Gareth Evans is back from what he describes as a 'truly epic experience.' He has recently finished the World Marathon Challenge 2018. This event was an intense physical and logistical challenge whereby participants flew to the starting point at Novo Base, Antartica. During this seven day time period, runners flew by charter plane from the 'Frozen Continent' to Cape Town, Perth, Dubai, Lisbon, Barranquilla and Miami. At each location, running experts ensured each marathon was the correct distance (26.2 miles) on custom courses.

The highs and lows of emotion combined with the sleep deprivation and passing through various time zones proved tough. However, Gareth describes the friendships formed through sharing the experience made the hurdles surmountable. Last April, Gareth completed the North Pole Marathon and is now part of the Grand Slam Marathon Club, a group of less than 150 members. The aim of these marathons was to support three worthy charities, all of which help those less fortunate. Best Buddies is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and development for people with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities). Perfect33  supports a Navy Seal Foundation which gives 93 cents on every dollar to those who need help for all they have sacrificied and for their families. B*CURED  supports a variety of causes looking to find a cure for brain cancer and support those enduring this devastating disease.
