Backstops and Brexit: A Talk by Joe Bondatti

On Thursday 25th March, we were delighted to host Joe Bondatti (GR 2006-11) for a King's Talk. He is interviewed by his former Housemaster, Marc Dath.

Joseph left King’s to read Modern Languages at Oxford (Christ Church) 2011-2016.

He joined the Civil Service in 2013 during his year-abroad in France, working for UK Visas and Immigration and then the Justice and Home Affairs section at the British Embassy Paris.

Joseph has since had several roles with the Civil Service across Whitehall. He joined DCMS (the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) as a Public Appointments Advisor in 2016, and then as the legislative lead in establishing the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) – an advisory and pseudo-regulatory body focused on AI in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

In 2018 Joseph joined the Home Office as a Senior EU Exit Negotiations Advisor in Europe Directorate, with a focus on Asylum and Illegal Migration and Security/Counter-Terrorism. Joseph is currently the Assistant Director for Trade Operations and Border Security in Border Force’s EU Exit/Border Readiness Directorate.
