OKS v Old Elizabethans Cricketer Trophy Match

Match report by Patrick Mitchell (LN 2004 - 2009)

Having arrived slightly late due to the awful traffic, Patrick Mitchell delegated toss duties to Charlie Macleod (TR 2005 - 2010) who won and chose to bat.

OKS got off to a good start with both George Stacey (CY / GL 2007 - 2012) and Rauridh Macleod (TR 2007 - 2012) facing some seriously hostile bowling. After George fell for 9, Will Heywood (MR 2011 - 2016) joined the party with some fluent batting, but sadly also succumbed to the Old Elizabethan pacey attack. James Legget (TR 2010 - 2015) and Rauridh put on a healthy and speedy partnership, but later fell for 50 and 45 respectively. Straight drives and reverse sweeps featured heavily in the quick fire partnership between Charlies Macleod and Ben Simpson (GR 2008 - 2013), it was clear that the bowling attack was getting frustrated and that was our opportunity to take advantage. Patrick Mitchell came to crease after Ben’s departure to join Charlie and put on a partnership of 99 with some more attacking play, Patrick ended up on 58 and Charlie on 35. The tail did ‘wag’ with both Seb Legget (GR 2008 - 2013) and Eddie Gilmore (GR 2007 - 2012) dispatching some inexplicably short bowling beyond the ropes. We ended up on 303-9 of the 50 overs – a more than respectable team effort.

After a brilliant opening spell from Rauridh Macleod and Seb Legget, we were able to frustrate the batsmen in the first 14 overs keeping the rate low. There was some good middle overs by Ali Lyons (LN 2007 - 2012), Ben Simpson, James Legget, Charlie Macleod and Patrick Mitchell which kept the rate low enough to always feel comfortable despite some seriously shaky fielding by the Captain amongst others. They ended up on 285-7 of their 50 overs which made for an 18 run win.

Overall a good performance – congratulations to the OKS! The second round is to be held on Sunday 1 st of July, opposition TBA.
